Soccer: Concacaf Nations League Final-USA at Mexico
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

A wild fistfight between fans of opposing teams at the USA-Mexico CONCACAF Nations League final soccer match has been caught on video.

The contest took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Sunday night. But, as the Associated Press points out, the crowd consisted largely of pro-Mexico fans.

The video appears to show fans of Mexico unable to restrain themselves as a rowdy pro-USA fan brags about his team’s performance.

One man celebrates with his American flag cape and bandana. Then, another fan from the losing side crosses the border between rows of seats and takes some wild swings.

After that, another fan of Mexico tries to enter the fray before several of the American fans join in. An all-out brawl ensues.

USA-Mexico Soccer Match Marred By Brawl

The massive brawl in the crowd at the USA-Mexico soccer game only comes to an end when somebody shoves the American fan over the row of chairs behind him.

The USA fan was holding his own against several combatants. Yet, the pro-Mexico fans celebrate after the push as if they had won.

But that wasn’t the only thing marring USA’s 2-0 victory in the championship game. U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter and his players were hit by debris while celebrating a goal. A similar scene played out during their match last year.

Play Stopped Due To ‘Homophobic’ Chants

As if a brawl and garbage being thrown on the pitch wasn’t enough, the USA-Mexico soccer match was stopped twice due to what the AP described as “homophobic chants” coming from the “pro-Mexico crowd.”

Chants of “puto” were heard emanating from the crowd.

Fans were reportedly removed from the match due to the chants, according to a post-game statement issued by the regional governing body of North and Central America and the Caribbean.

“CONCACAF condemns the discriminatory chanting,” they state. “Security staff in the stadium identified and ejected a significant number of fans, and the referee and match officials activated the FIFA protocol. … It is extremely disappointing that this matter continues to be an issue at some matches.”

It is unclear if any fans were ejected or even arrested for participating in the brawl.
