The former “Full House” star Candace Cameron Bure is speaking out this week to credit the “grace of God” for her 28 year marriage to the former NHL star Valeri Bure.

Cameron Bure’s Marriage

While promoting her new faith-based movie Unsung Hero, which hit theaters last Friday, Cameron Bure opened up about her nearly-three decade marriage to Bure, admitting that it hasn’t always been an easy road for them.

“No one has a perfect marriage,” Cameron Bure, 48, told US Weekly. “There are trials along the way, but I’m grateful we’ve stuck through them.”

Cameron Bure went on to say that her marriage has stood the test of time partly because she and her husband have “a lot of love and respect for each other.”

“Really [it’s] by the grace of God [we’re still together], because you go through ups and downs,” she added.

“Above all, we just want what’s best for each other,” she continued. “We want to do everything we can to stay together. And a lot of times it just means being selfless and putting your sense of control aside and going, ‘How do we work on this together?’ There’s a lot of humility in marriage, let’s just say that. You’ve got to put your pride aside.”

Bure’s Hockey Career

Cameron Bure met Bure back in 1994, when they were set up on a date by her “Full House” co-star Dave Coulier. At the time, Bure was just starting his NHL career with the Montreal Canadians, and he ended up playing with the team for four seasons.

Bure would go on to have stints with the Calgary Flames, Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues, and finally the Dallas Stars before retiring in 2005 after sustaining back and hip injuries.

Bure is also a two-time Olympic medalist, having won a silver medal in 1998 and a bronze medal in 2002 while representing Russia. He was born in Moscow in 1974, but he moved to the U.S. with his family at the age of 17 so that his older brother Pavel could sign with the Vancouver Canucks, according to Sports Illustrated

Cameron Bure And Bure Are Both Christians

Cameron Bure and Bure are parents to three childen, welcoming daughter Natasha in 1998 and sons Lev and Maksim in 2000 and 2002. Strong Christian values played a major role in both their marriage and how they raised their children, who are all now adults.

“I’m a Christian, my husband’s a Christian, and I’m really proud that we’ve managed to stay married for 24 years. And the fact that we have fun and we flirt together, this is part of what makes our marriage work,” Cameron Bure said in 2020, according to People Magazine.

Cameron Bure has also credited keeping things “spicy” for her long-lasting marriage.

“The longer you’re married it’s so easy to take each other for granted. You know each other so well that you forget, so you have to keep it spicy,” she said in May of 2021. “I love that. My husband and I do. That’s one of the reasons we’ll be celebrating 25 years of marriage.”

Given how rare decades-long marriages are in both the world of Hollywood and the world of sports, what Cameron Bure and Bure have is very special. Here’s hoping they have many years of happiness together to come!
