NFL: Combine
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

I did my best to avoid using the word ‘fart’ in our headline. Nearly 20 years in the field of journalism have conditioned me to avoid sophomoric headlines no matter how tempting.

But dammit, this is just so good. And honestly, aren’t we all as sports fans, a little bit like kids at heart?

Without further ado, we give to you Trent Baalke, the general manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who ripped a fart so obvious during a press conference that he had to acknowledge the elephant in the room.

And he handled it like a champ.

Trent Baalke Blows Up Social Media After Blowing Up

We dare you not to laugh after watching that video. It is, quite obviously, hilarious.

Most people in a public setting would have talked louder, particularly at the moment of impact. Ya know, to cover up what was happening.

Not the Jags GM. Not Trent Baalke who pauses enough to show reporters that damn it, he is invested in this performance and everybody around him is going to enjoy his work.

“Excuse me,” he says. And without even flinching, continues answering the question.

I mean, to reach that level of ‘I don’t give a damn’ has to be one hell of a feeling.

Maybe this is what the Jaguars need to get them over the top in the NFL. Could this go up there with the greatest motivational moments in history?

Herb Brooks before the Miracle on Ice. Knute Rockne telling his club to “win one for the Gipper.” John ‘Bluto’ Blutarsky asking his boys, “Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?”

And now, henceforth, Trent Baalke blowing the seams off his pants. Hollywood can’t write a better script. Even if it is produced by the Farrelly brothers.

Jaguars GM Trent Baalke, during the same presser, addressed Trevor Lawrence’s potential contract extension.

“You try not to force anything,” he said, having clearly just forced something.

“We’ve had some great talks and great conversations. I spoke with his agency again last night. We’re working, but you can’t force this stuff.”

Lawrence has stated that he wants to remain in Jacksonville and is optimistic about the team’s future.

The Jaguars have until May 2 to exercise Lawrence’s fifth-year option for the 2025 season, which is estimated to be worth around $25 million.

Baalke is optimistic that the team will be able to get something worked out.

If this press conference is any indication, whatever is worked out will be a blast.
