New reports indicate the Los Angeles Lakers are “very open” to the idea of drafting Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, in the NBA draft this June.

James declared for the draft after a season with the USC Trojans which saw him average 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists, while shooting a frigid 36.6% from the field.

The Athletic reports on team sources who indicate the move to draft Bronny would be a means to keep LeBron with the team and entice him to sign a 3-year extension.

Willing To Waste A Draft Pick On Bronny To Appease LeBron James?

The Los Angeles Lakers currently hold the No. 55 pick in this summer’s NBA draft. They might possibly have the No. 17 pick should the New Orleans Pelicans choose to defer their owed pick to 2025.

The fact that team officials are considering using a draft pick – any draft pick – solely for the purpose of appeasing LeBron James is another indication of the decline of a once proud franchise.

Bronny James is nowhere to be found in anybody’s mock drafts. Why? Because his freshman season was abysmal. He demonstrated thoroughly that he is not ready for the NBA game. He wasn’t even prepared for the college game.

They’re going to use a draft pick, which could best be utilized in finding a player who could help the team win actual games and playoff series, on somebody who does little more than stroke LeBron’s ego and fulfill his pipe dream to play with his son?

But, as Bounding Into Sports reported, the fact that Bronny even declared for the draft suggested that the Lakers may have already indicated their interest in selecting him:

That raises some questions though. Going undrafted would be a huge embarrassment for the son of a guy who calls himself ‘King James’.

Do LeBron and Bronny know something we don’t? Will LA pull the trigger?

LeBron Says His Son Could Play In The NBA

LeBron James has repeatedly planted the seeds to justify the Lakers taking Bronny James in the upcoming NBA draft.

“He could play for us right now,” James said following a Lakers loss to the Memphis Grizzlies back in January. “Easy. EASY.”

James also said Bronny James is “definitely better” than some players currently in the league.

What is actually ‘lightweight hilarious’ is that the Lakers are considering tanking their franchise, handcuffing a team that got obliterated by the Denver Nuggets in the NBA playoffs two straight seasons, for the sole purpose of making LeBron happy.

Tanking games to get a better draft pick is illegal in the NBA. Tampering with draft picks is also illegal.

There is little to no chance that the Lakers have not discussed this situation with LeBron. He has likely, meanwhile, relayed the information to Bronny.

The Lakers need to be investigated.
