Glen Davis was somewhat of a cult hero during his time in college with the LSU Tigers. Once he made his way to the NBA as a member of the Boston Celtics back in 2007, the Baton Rouge native continued to be popular among fans.

Davis ultimately spent parts of eight seasons in the NBA. He also won an NBA title as a member of the Celtics during his rookie season, helping them defeat Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals.

Fast forward nearly two decades, and Davis will now be spending a significant amount of time behind bars.

Back in 2021, Davis was one of 20 people who were indicted on filing false reimbursement claims to the NBA’s health and welfare benefit plan. He was ultimately convicted this past November.

A federal judge in the Southern District of New York sentenced Davis to 40 months in prison for his role in the scheme on Thursday.

After Davis was convicted in November, SDNY released a statement indicating that those involved in the scheme netted over $5 million in profits. Davis himself submitted $132,000 in claims, including $27,000 of dental work in Southern California when it was proven he was living in Nevada.

Davis was ultimately convicted of health care fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to make false statements and conspiracy to commit healthcare and wire fraud. In reality, he’s lucky not to have been charged under the federal RICO statute. That would have required a mandatory minimum.

A total of 18 of those 20 individuals who were ultimately charged back in 2021 were former NBA players. That included Terrence Williams, Will Bynum and Keyon Dooling. Bynum was just recently sentenced to 18 months in prison.

In addition to his four-year stint with the Celtics, Davis spent time with the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Clippers before his NBA career came to an end following the 2014-15 season. He also spent time playing in Ice Cub’s Big3 league.
