The late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel mocked Travis Kelce earlier this week by referring to him as Taylor Swift’s “broke boyfriend” despite the fact that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end just signed a 2-year contract extension that will see him make $34 million.
Kimmel Mocks Kelce
During his opening monologue on Tuesday night, Kimmel took the opportunity to poke fun at Kelce.
“Congratulations to Travis Kelce,” Kimmel began. “Travis Kelce signed a two-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs. He is now the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.”
Kimmel went on to say that Swift, who is a billionaire, will see Kelce’s contract amount as “gum money.”
“Can you imagine being in a relationship where you make $34 million and you’re still the broke boyfriend?” he quipped.
Forbes named Swift as a billionaire in October of last year, reporting at the time that her net worth was $1.1 billion.
“Another weird thing about dating Taylor Swift is you can be one of the great players of all time, and this is the reaction you get to your contract extension,” Kimmel said.

Kimmel Doubles Down
Kimmel proceeded to show a screenshot of a selfie video of Kelce that the Chiefs posted to social media after news of his relationship with Swift broke. The screenshot also included comments from fans.
“His eyes full of tears [crying emoji] this baby,” one comment read, with another saying, he’s so babygirl.”
Kimmel read out the embarrassing comments to his audience, focusing on one that called Kelce the “pookiest pookie.”
“I’m not sure if he’s a football player or a kitten,” Kimmel said.
Kimmel tried to end the segment on a positive note, congratulating Swift on becoming “the first artist in history to occupy all of the top 14 spots on Billboard’s Hot 100 list” and noting that “29 of the 31 tracks on her new album are in the top 50.”
