Green Bay, Wisconsin is by far the smallest market in professional American sports.

The city is home to a mere 100,000 – a pittance for hosting a global brand. So as you may guess, things may get a bit cozy next year during the 2025 NFL Draft, held in Titletown, USA.

And as we all know, prices are discovered somewhere along the intersection of supply (quite limited) and demand (hopefully massive!).

And let’s just say – some prices are already simply ludicrous.

Staying Near Lambeau = $$$

Here’s another thing most people don’t understand about Green Bay: Lambeau Field was built literally in the middle of corn fields. As the city took on its modern shape, normal, run-of-the-mill neighborhoods for blue collar workers surrounded the stadium.

Quite literally, Lambeau Field is now just in the middle of a neighborhood. Think 1,000 square foot bungalows, with single stall garages and small yards.

In recent years, some of those bungalows have been bought up and turned into, well I guess “party houses” for lack of a better term. But pretty much any house within walking distance to Lambeau is going to price out the average fan.

That’s because some of them are renting for upwards of $18,000!

The Green Bay Press Gazette reported:

A three-bedroom home in the 1100 block of Shadow Lane with space for 10 people across Lombardi Avenue from Lambeau Field is asking for almost $17,900 per night during the NFL draft, April 24-26. If you stayed from Sunday to Sunday, April 20-27, that’d cost you $125,000, plus a $200 cleaning fee plus a $17,675 Airbnb service fee for a total of $142,875. Plus taxes.

The short-term rental is known as “Ron Wolf’s Hall of Fame Clubhouse” and operators Paul and Zoi Belschner intended for the five-figure nightly price to pop eyeballs and “generate discussion” in the community.

Insanity!

For reference, here is the size of what is sure to be a multi-thousand dollar rental!

Preparing for the 2025 NFL Draft

If you’re lucky enough to find a place to stay within 30 miles of Green Bay, I would expect that you’re in for a memorable treat.

The Packers have been trying to get the NFL draft for years. Clearly, one of the concerns of the owners (we don’t have one, we have over 300,000) and the NFL was, in fact, Green Bay’s size. Hotel space is limited. And if the 2025 Draft is anything like the 2024 Draft, Green Bay can expect a massive influx of hundreds of thousands of people coming to pay homage to Football Mecca.

I suspect a lot of those “more affordable” Airbnb’s out there will only grow more out of reach price-wise.

This author is still debating whether or not to take the risk and rent out the crib for a week. Perhaps it would be fine if Steelers or Vikings fans wanted to rent out my place, but Heaven forbid – what if Bears or Philly fans end up renting my place?

Decisions, decisions. Regardless, I could not be more excited to share our fair city with NFL fans from all across the country. Come one, come all – if you can afford it!
