The legendary football star Tom Brady is speaking out this week to reveal his biggest regret from his 23 year NFL career.

While recently appearing on “The Pivot Podcast,” Brady revealed his major NFL regret while he talked about his keys to success.

“What I would have changed was, OK , there’s part of me that still loves … You see these young players. I see, like, Patrick [Mahomes] out there at quarterback, laughing, having fun,” said Brady, 46. “I’m like, ‘I used to be like that!’ What the hell happened to me? I just got too serious.”

Throughout much of his time as the quarterback for the New England Patriots in the 2010s, Brady often seemed to be in a dark, or at least serious, mood. Fans took noticed that he was rarely seen joking around with his teammates, according to The New York Post. When he did show emotion, it was often a show in a display of intensity, which ruffled feathers at times. These days, Brady is aiming to be more lighthearted in everything that he does.

“You just learn from it, and go, ‘OK, now next phase of life, enjoy it a little more,’” he said.

Pressure On Brady

As Brady looks back, he thinks he may have been overwhelmed by the pressure he was facing from both on and off the field.

“So much [of], I think, the early part of my career was trying to fulfill people’s new expectations of me — and me still being the 14-year-old boy that wanted to fit in. I was like, ‘I just want to go to the field and play,’” Brady said. “Now, there was all these other things to choose from.”

“Next thing you know, you’re overwhelmed because you didn’t sleep, you didn’t eat right, you were partying,” he added. “I’m like, ‘I don’t really like the way I’m feeling.’”

Though Brady regrets having such a serious attitude throughout his career, it paid off for him in a big way. He has gone down in history as one of the best NFL quarterbacks of all time. Brady won seven Super Bowls throughout his lengthy career in the years 2002, 2004, 2005, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2021. He was additionally named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) five times in 2002, 2004, 2015, 2017, and 2021.

The nearest competition for titles lies with Bart Starr at a distant five.

Brady Moving Into Broadcasting

Now that he has officially retired, Brady is moving into the world of broadcasting. Last month, he made his Fox Sports broadcasting debut during the UFL championship. As the NFL training camps begin this month, Brady is preparing for his first season calling NFL games with Fox’s Kevin Burkhard.

Brady is also set to make his official NFL regular-season debut in Week 1 as the Browns host the Cowboys.

“Really, the game is the show,” Brady said last month when asked about calling NFL games. “We’re there to add our take on it, our analysis, but it’s also, ‘Did we feel like we added to the broadcast?’ From my standpoint, I’m going to work as hard as I can.”

Since Brady’s life in retirement is still fairly new to him, it’s natural that he would be getting reflective about his NFL career. Here’s hoping that he doesn’t beat himself up too much, as Brady should always remember that he had one of the best NFL careers of all time!
