Stop us if you’ve heard this before. Caitlin Clark. WNBA record. The Indiana Fever star rookie had already broken multiple single-season records as the generational talent was set to take on the two-time defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces on Friday.
We can now add another to the list. Despite Indiana falling at home against Vegas, Clark set the league’s single-season assist mark with 317.
Clark finished the game with 18 points, eight rebounds and nine assists despite shooting a mere 7-of-18 from the field. But that’s not the entire story here.
Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas held the previous record with 316 last season. It’s absolutely ridiculous that a rookie is setting single-season records like this given the legendary players we’ve seen throughout the history of the WNBA.

Caitlin Clark Adds Another WNBA Record To Resume
As noted above, Clark has set multiple records as a rookie this season. Here are just a few of them.
- Rookie record for most three-pointers in a single season
- Single-game record with 19 assists back on Aug. 28 against the Dallas Wings
- Rookie assists record
- Triple-doubles for a rookie
- Fastest WNBA player to 400 points and 200 assists
- Turnovers in a season
Okay, that latter record is not something someone wants to own. But you get the point. Clark has been simply sensational as a rookie.
She’s also leading Indiana into the WNBA Playoffs after the team posted a 13-27 record a season ago.
