Terry Bradshaw might have been the only person left in sports who didn’t realize Bears quarterback Caleb Williams likes to paint his fingernails.

At least, that’s how it felt during Fox’s NFL pregame show on Sunday.

Bradshaw felt the need to comment on the matter, prompting co-host Howie Long to interject and suggest he had hoped Terry didn’t go there.

But he did.

“What if I’d have painted my fingernails in 1970? Black on this side and gold on this side, how would that have…” Bradshaw wondered aloud.

“I was hoping,” Long interjected. “I was hoping you would just stop and not even think about that.”

Caleb Williams Fingernails Create Quite A Stir

While Terry usually does, as Long suggests, ‘not even think about it’, he was prompted to comment on the matter when it was brought up by another co-host.

Host Curt Menefee had tried to explain that if Williams wants to paint the nails and it makes him feel more comfortable on the field expressing himself, then it should be all good.

“They say, if you look good, you feel good. You feel good, you play good,” Menefee said. “This is how he came on the field today. Look at his nails. He has them painted, and he has ‘Da Bears’ and his number 18 on his nails.”

Bradshaw was overcome with laughter at his own thoughts after wondering how teammates in the ’70s would have reacted if he did the same thing. And he gave an effort to explain his remarks that sounded an awful lot like Jerry Seinfeld’s ‘not that there’s anything wrong with that’ line.

“I know, I’m not saying it’s wrong. I’m just…” he said laughing and covering his face.

Is It A Problem?

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has had his share of supporters and detractors when it comes to his fingernail polish.

Former Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer tore into the 2024 number-one overall pick in the NFL draft for something else. His leadership style in the locker room. Particularly telling veteran players to stop being slobs.

“Some rookie’s gonna come in who hasn’t played one snap, talking, wearing the fingernail polish, now he’s gonna come in here and tell me, who has been here, been through the struggle, that I need to clean up?” Toomer said.

The general consensus though seems to be if Caleb Williams plays well, who gives a rip what he does with his fingernails? On that front, we regret to inform you the rookie had a rough first start Sunday.

While the Bears won, the game was extremely ugly. Even uglier was Williams’ stat line: 14 for 29 for 93 yards and zero touchdowns.

Silver-lining – he didn’t throw any picks. Perhaps that’s the color he should go with next week?
