Florida golfer Robert Levine was arrested by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office after he reportedly attacked a dog walker on the 15th hole of the Kings Point Golf Course.

Terri Parker of WPBF News reports that Herbert Merritt, 64, was approached by Robert Levine, 74, on his golf cart after he noticed Merritt walking his dog next to the golf course.

An arrest report obtained by WPBF News reportedly details that “Levine…began causing a verbal altercation with him due to having his dog on the golf course… He then began shooting at him while Merritt was running away.”

From there Merritt fled behind a tree while Levine pursued him and continued to fire at him, reportedly discharging five rounds.

Witnesses then detailed that Levine proceeded to physically attack Merritt by kicking him in the head. He then returned to his golf cart and acquired a club, which he used to beat Merritt while still holding his firearm in his left hand.

When deputies arrived on the scene they discovered Merritt on the ground with a “gunshot wound to his left ankle.” Levine was detained nearby with a “black semi-automatic handgun in his front left pocket.”

Merritt told deputies he believed Levine was “trying to kill him.”

Deputies also discovered shell casings on the ground and two golf clubs that appeared to have been bloodied.

Merritt had non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports that Levine has been charged with firing a weapon in public or in residential property, aggravated battery and using a deadly weapon, and attempted first degree premeditated murder.

What do you make of Levine’s attack on Merritt?
