Football legend and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady has stepped up to help victims of Hurricane Ian by pledging to make a donation to relief efforts after the Glazer family, who owns the team, donated $1 million as well.
“The destruction suffered in Southwest Florida and the damage inflicted throughout our state will be felt for some times,” said Darcie Glazer Kassewitz, co-owner of the Buccaneers. “It will take entire communities through resiliently working together for an extended period, and our family is committed to aiding in the recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with the countless people affected, the heroic first responders and all those helping to keep others safe.”
Following in their footsteps, Brady also publicly committed to making a significant donation to the Florida Disaster Fund.
“Happy were able to head home for Sunday night, but so many people in Florida won’t be able to do the same,” Brady said in a post to his official Twitter account. “I’ll be making a donation to the Florida Disaster Fund to get things started, and I’m hoping the rest of the NFL family in our state will follow suit.”
On Wednesday, the NFL announced that Sunday’s game would still happen in Tampa, but also added that there is a contingency plan just in case. That plan is to move the match to the Vikings’ U.S. Bank Stadium in Minnesota if the weather is still too dangerous to host the game in the Buc’s home of Tampa.
Hurricane Ian has wreaked havoc over the western central coast, earning its reputation as one of the largest storms in U.S. history. The Category 4 storm caused roughly 2.6 million Florida residents to go without power.
