An explosion on Monday night at the North Carolina home of Tennessee Titans cornerback Caleb Farley left one person dead and one person injured, according to multiple reports.
Iredell County (NC) Fire Marshal’s Office spokesperson Kent Greene told TMZ Sports that firefighters recovered the body of one person at the scene and another person was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Greene added an investigation into the situation is ongoing, with the current focus centered on the home’s natural gas lines. Caleb Farley was not a victim of the blast, though it is unclear if the Titans’ defensive back was at home when the explosion occurred. Multiple reports pace him at the site Tuesday, talking with authorities.
According to reporters Savannah Rudicel, Matthew Memrick, and Jesse Ullmann of Queens City News, authorities confirmed the deceased person was Farley’s 61-year-old father, Robert Matthews Farley.

No foul play is suspected in the incident, but that certainly doesn’t soften the blow for the Titans player, who was reportedly very close with his father. He spoke to the media and reminisced about his Dad, perhaps looking for some kind of closure:
“I’ve always known my father was loved in this community. Growing up as a little boy, I always knew my father was well-respected in this community. So, I appreciate the support, everybody coming out to just check on my family,” Caleb Farley told WBTV-TV. “All I have in this world is my faith … that’s all I got.”
Caleb Farley, the No. 22 overall pick in the 2021 draft, was placed on injured reserve in November with a back issue. The former Virginia Tech Hokie played in only 12 games in his first two seasons and is currently listed as physically unable to perform as the Titans wrap up training camp. They kick off the 2023 season on Sept. 10 against the Saints in New Orleans.
