49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has a lot of things going for him. He’s got great skills and instincts, a wealth of talent around him, and an entire fan base that’s fallen in love with his rise to fame. He’s just missing one thing: His own place.

Purdy is earning $870,000 this season, plus any other off-field endorsements he might be pulling in. But, he’s yet to get his own apartment in the Bay Area. That’s right. One of the very best signal callers in the NFL right now shares a spot with a roommate. The starting quarterback lives with one of the 49ers’ offensive linemen, and the two players split the rent.

“So I still have a roommate, one of the offensive linemen here,” Purdy said during a recent appearance on Today. “He and I are still splitting rent and I still drive my Toyota Sequoia. Other than that, it’s pretty simple.”

This comes as the former “Mr. Irrelevant” continued his unbeaten streak as a starter. He kept it going this week, throwing four touchdowns in a 42-10 shellacking of the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. The world has taken notice of Brock Purdy now, with many pundits and former players already predicting multiple Super Bowls in his future.

Purdy could definitely afford to get a place of his own, but he’s likely waiting until he signs his long-term extension before he buys a home in The City by the Bay. He might also be scared off by the ridiculous cost of living in San Francisco, which is the sixth-highest of any city in the United States.

So even with the salary he commands as a second-year starter, it’s probably too rich for Purdy’s blood to put down stakes there. At least, for now.

Purdy didn’t receive a huge contract coming off a stellar career at Iowa State because he was Mr. Irrelevant – the informal term used to describe the very last player picked in the NFL Draft. No word yet if the QB will eventually have that nickname stenciled on the mailbox of his new house.
