The Raiders sealed Sunday’s win thanks to linebacker Robert Spillane, who intercepted a pass and then shared some wonderful family news after the game

It was a big week for Las Vegas Raiders linebacker Robert Spillane. With his team getting a new lease on life under interim coach Antonio Pierce, he helped seal the team’s second-straight win with a fourth-quarter interception, beating the Jets 16-12 on Sunday night. But it was some off the field news that was even bigger for the hardnosed defender.

Moments after picking off New York’s Zach Wilson to lock things down, the 27-year-old Raiders star was doing the NBC postgame interview, when he informed the viewing audience that he and his wife, Shelby, were expecting their first child in June.

So, counting the pick and the pregnancy? Spillane had plenty of reasons to be emotional when he spoke to sideline reporter Melissa Stark.

“I’m just thankful to be part of such a fun team,” he said. “My wife is actually pregnant. So, we get to tell the world tonight that my beautiful wife will be having out first baby in June. So, I’m looking forward to it.”

It’s been a good year all around for Robert Spillane, who signed with the team this year after stints with the Titans and Steelers. His interception against the Jets was his third so far in 2023, and he’s recorded 74 tackles and 1.5 sacks as well.

Spillane starred at Western Michigan before signing as an undrafted free agent with Tennessee in 2018.
