Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph led his team to a big win over the Cincinnati Bengals Saturday and quickly praised his “creator” Jesus Christ for helping to guide his life through difficult times.
The Steelers dominated the Bengals this past weekend, 34-11, led by Mason Rudolph’s solid play. Rudolph passed for 290 yards and two touchdowns on zero interceptions. He finished the game with a QB rating of 124.0.
In a post-game interview, Mason took a moment to acknowledge his creator, Jesus Christ, after the stunning victory.
“I want to say just so thankful to my creator, Jesus Christ, for giving me the opportunity to play this game, for carrying me through the dark times, and for getting me back here for this special moment,” he told NBC sideline reporter Melissa Stark.
Mason Rudolph Celebrates Jesus Christ
Mason Rudolph’s praise for Jesus Christ highlights the role of faith and spirituality in the lives of many athletes. It serves as a reminder that, even in the high-stakes world of professional sports, there are things more important than winning or losing.
Still, he acknowledged the importance of this start – He’s only had 18 starts in six seasons and just two in the past three years prior to this game.
“You got confidence in yourself as a player,” Rudolph told reporters, “but you’re kind of thinking, ‘Am I going to jump into the commercial real estate realm next year or am I going to be playing quarterback?'”
At one point, the Pittsburgh crowd was chanting his name. Even following the victory, however, the Steelers find themselves on the very edge of the payoff bubble following a three-game losing streak.

Myles Garrett Incident
Mason Rudolph has been through some other “dark times” on the football field as well.
Rudolph was accused of using a racial slur during a game against the Cleveland Browns in November 2019. The accusation came from Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, who claimed that Rudolph used a slur prior to a brawl that occurred during the game.
Garrett ripped Rudolph’s helmet off after a play had been completed and swung it at the Steelers quarterback’s head.
Rudolph vehemently denied the accusation and was exonerated after the NFL investigated the incident and found no evidence to support Garrett’s accusation.
In a 2019 interview with Sports Spectrum, Rudolph shared how his faith has been a constant in his life, even during difficult times.
“I passionately pursue Christ because I want to be a witness for Him and use this platform to impact our community,” he said.
