After winning Super Bowl 58 Sunday night, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes praised God for being instrumental in their win.
“I give God the glory, man,” Mahomes said. “He challenged us to make us better.”
“And I’m proud of my guys, man,” he added. “This is awesome.”
“It’s legendary,” Mahomes said.
Patrick Mahomes Open About His Faith
Mahomes has been outspoken about his Christian faith.
The NFL quarterback and multiple-time Super Bowl champion said in February of last year, particularly regarding the wear and tear professional athletes put their bodies through.
“I wanna thank God, man. He healed my body this week,” he told CBS’s Tracy Wolfson. “To battle through that, He gave me the strength to be out here.”
In an ESPN video interview before the 2023 Super Bowl, Mahomes said:
“My Christian faith plays a role in everything that I do. I always ask God to lead me in the right direction and let me be who I am for His name. So it has a role in everything that I do. Obviously we’ll be on that huge stage in the Super Bowl that He’s given me, and I want to make sure I’m glorifying Him while I do it.”
‘It’s About Going Out There and Being the Best That I Can in His Name’
Sports Spectrum also reported at the time, “Chiefs team chaplain Marcellus Casey says Mahomes is a regular attendee at the team’s chapel services, and the 27-year-old says he’s recently enjoyed spiritual growth.”
“I feel like I’ve grown in my faith these last few years and I think that’s given me more sense of who I am and why I play the game,” Mahomes said.
Mahomes would add, “It just kind of relieves the pressure of playing a football game because I know that I’m on that football field to glorify Him before everything.”
“So it’s not about winning or losing, it’s about going out there and being the best that I can in His name,” he declared.
Congratulations and God bless to the 2024 Super Bowl champion.
