Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson tried to capitalize on news that voters in Kansas City rejected a sales tax that would fund renovations for the Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium.
The failed measure leaves the future of the NFL franchise up in the air but is by no means an indication they will be leaving town.
In fact, the Chiefs still have several years remaining on their lease at Arrowhead Stadium.
But that didn’t stop Johnson from practically begging the team to relocate to their original home.
“Welcome home, Dallas Texans!,” Johnson wrote on X. He added a ‘#CottonBowl’ to suggest he also has a new home stadium in mind for the team.

Kansas City Chiefs Heading To Dallas?
A Fox News report points out the many tangential connections between the Kansas City Chiefs and the city of Dallas.
The team was founded in 1959 as the Dallas Texans by businessman Lamar Hunt. The current owner, Clark Hunt, is his son. Hunt has a home in Dallas.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was born in Tyler, Texas, grew up in Whitehouse, and played college ball at Texas Tech University.
Johnson appears to be serious about the proposition.
But there is the problem of that other minor team that plays football in the NFL being in the same city. You know, the most valuable sports franchise on the planet?
No worries, says Johnson. Dallas is big enough for both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys.
“Dallas was named the top sports city in the United States because we play to win,” he told the Dallas Morning News.
“As I have said previously, our market is big enough, growing enough and loves football more than enough to support a second NFL team — especially a franchise with deep roots here.”
Jerry Jones Is Not A Fan
Prior to the Kansas City Chiefs pitch, Johnson tried to lure the Chargers to Dallas in 2022. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones squashed the idea at the time.
“Well, I like the mayor,” Jones told The Dallas Morning News. “I like him personally, but he doesn’t have the depth. He doesn’t have the knowledge that others have regarding how unique Dallas is and how we enjoy the interest in the Cowboys.”
“He wouldn’t want to water that down as it relates to Dallas if he knew as much, and has spent as much time in sports as I have.”
Well, Jerry. Based on the horrific failures the Cowboys have endured in the playoffs in the past three decades, the Kansas City Chiefs moving to Dallas would mean it’s your team watering things down. At least in terms of quality of play.
