Upcoming country star Jelly Roll is a force. He’s everywhere these days. Why should the NFL Draft be any different?
Answer: It’s not! The reformed singer brought his talents to yet another realm – throwing a bash for the Draft!
‘The Night Before’
The ever popular big man scaled things down a bit on Wednesday to throw a Detroit party in the city he now calls his “second home.”
And he didn’t disappoint.
Performing at the Fillmore venue, Mr. Roll played a nearly 90 minute set of familiar songs and also a brand new one he debuted before a capacity crowd of 3,000.
The event was advertised as “The Night Before,” and while it wasn’t officially affiliated with the NFL Draft, which will run Thursday-Saturday, that was obviously the reason for the celebration.
The Detroit Free Press reported, “Coming just eight months after a sellout show at Pine Knob Music Theatre, the Fillmore was the Tennessee native’s most intimate Detroit concert since his gigs years ago at spots such as Harpo’s and the Shelter — venues he shouted out Wednesday while vowing his next one in the city will be at Little Caesars Arena.”
Intro by Flavor-Flav!
“Jelly Roll, in typical chatty and high-spirited form, loaded his 18-song set with material from ‘Ballads of the Broken’ and ‘Whitsitt Chapel,’ the albums that propelled him onto the national radar after years in the musical trenches, making him the toast of awards shows and gushing cover stories,” the Free Press noted.
Jelly Roll’s story is one of triumph. He battled drug addiction as a kid then ended up in prison before later becoming a hip-hop and country megastar.
He’s obviously come a long way since those terrible days.
How far? Roll was introduced at the NFL Draft celebration Wednesday night by quasi-Detroiter Flavor Flav!
The event was Jelly Roll’s sixth Michigan appearance since 2023. Don’t think he will have to wait on another NFL Draft before he hits the Motor City again!
