Terrell Owens starred for the San Francisco 49ers from 1996-2003. He’s largely considered one of the greatest players in franchise history.

Despite his own tenure in Northern California coming to a drama-filled end in 2003, Owens has still maintained a relationship with the organization. That included being honored prior to making the Pro Football Hall of Fame back in 2018.

TO, as he is known, might now have more of a reason to be connected to the 49ers’ organization.

The team just signed his son, wide receiver Terique Owens, as an undrafted free agent this past weekend. The younger Owens had taken part in the 49ers’ local pro day and showed enough to be signed despite going undrafted.

Terrell Owens Will Shed Some Tears If His Son Makes The San Francisco 49ers’ Roster

“I’d probably shed some tears if he makes it because I’ve seen the growth,” Owens told The San Francisco Chronicle. “I’ve seen the process.”

The younger Owens started his collegiate career at Contra Costa College before splitting time between Florida Atlantic and Missouri State. The 6-foot-3 pass-catcher hauled in 28 receptions for 528 yards this past season.

While Owens might be a longshot to make the 49ers’ 53-man roster, his dad gave him some fatherly advice.

“I just emphasize, ‘you’re only gonna get one crack at this,’ ” Terrell Owens said. “It could all be gone tomorrow. I know some guys right now who would probably give their right testicles to be in a position just to work out for a team. Once you’re out, it’s hard to get back in.”

It would certainly make for a major story in Northern California if Terique Owens shines during off-season activities and finds a way to make the 53. Terrell would be right there with popcorn in hand to root on his son.
