Edelman Reveals Brady’s Pre-Game Ritual

While appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show,” earlier this week, Edelman talked about the bond between Brady and his longtime trainer Alex Guerrero. Edelman explained that Brady is so devoted to Guerrero that he “believes anything he says.”

“He could literally say, ‘Tom, if you eat this dog s— right here it’s gonna make you better,’ Tom would eat it,” he stated. “I’m not joking.”

That’s when Edelman revealed the pre-game ritual that Guerrero would have Brady do that helped him to become more of “a machine and not human.” Surprisingly enough, this ritual involved chicken wings, which is one of Brady’s favorite foods.

Edelman claimed that Brady would “smell the chicken wings the night before the game while the offensive linemen are over there taking down chicken wings.”

“You have the same food every pregame meal and there’d always be chicken wings and you’d see Tom just sit there, and you know he loved a chicken wing, but he had to use that mental toughness and that chin strength and just walk right by it, give it a smell only,” he remembered.

Edelman concluded by saying that this showcase of Brady’s mental toughness garnered more respect for him among his teammates.

Brady And Edelman’s Career Success

This pre-game ritual certainly paid off, as Brady has gone down in history as one of the best NFL quarterbacks of all time. He won seven Super Bowls throughout his lengthy career in the years 2002, 2004, 2005, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2021. He was additionally named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) five times in 2002, 2004, 2015, 2017, and 2021.

Edelman also had an incredibly impressive NFL career. He won three Super Bowls, each of them alongside Brady, in 2015, 2017, and 2019. In that last year, Edelman was named the Super Bowl LIII MVP.

“He deserves it,” Brady said of the time of Edelman getting this honor. “That was one of the best games he ever played.”

Edelman responded by explaining that winning MVP was never his goal heading into that game.

“I was just trying to go out and have a good week of practice and do my job,” he said. “Sometimes the cookie crumbles that way.”
