Video of golfer Scottie Scheffler being arrested before round two of the PGA Championship has emerged this morning.
Scheffler, the number one golfer in the world, remarkably was detained and charged after he allegedly failed to follow police orders as he was about to enter Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky. Police were dealing with a separate crash involving a pedestrian being fatally struck by a shuttle bus.
ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington was on scene and claims the golfer tried to drive into the entrance of the golf course when he was told by an officer to stop. Scheffler though, reportedly drove another “10 to 20 yards toward the entrance.”
Darlington posted a video of the arrest to his X social media account. He characterized it as a “misunderstanding with traffic flow” as authorities were investigating the fatal crash from earlier in the morning.

What Happened?
The ESPN reporter provided further incredible details from the arrest of Scottie Scheffler. The officer in question reportedly “attached himself” to the world-renowned golfer’s vehicle.
And he clearly wasn’t happy that Scheffler tried to get around the police activity and get to his scheduled location at Valhalla.
Scheffler, Darlington reports, “rolled down his window to talk to the officer” but he instead “grabbed Scheffler’s arm to pull him out of the vehicle.”
“The officer reached inside the vehicle to open the door, and once Scheffler was pulled out, he was pushed against the car and placed in handcuffs,” ESPN writes.
At one point, this year’s Masters winner pleaded with Darlington, “Can you help?”

Scottie Scheffler Facing Some Serious Charges
It’s unclear if the officer knew who Scheffler was. He is a rather unassuming face and name considering his prestigious ranking in the golf world.
And while Darlington states the arrest seems to have stemmed from a “misunderstanding”, the charges Scheffler is facing are serious.
Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.
The assault charge is a felony.
Scheffler’s attorney states his client was unaware of the fatal accident. He was simply “attempt(ing) to enter Valhalla Golf Club as he had been instructed to earlier.”
He adds that the officer was not part of the detail that handles golfer entries. That was the crux of the miscommunication. The attorney vows Scheffler will fully cooperate with the police.
Reports indicate Scheffler has been released and he plans to continue with round two of the PGA Championship. He was the odds-on favorite entering the major event but sits five shots behind leader Xander Schauffele.
We’ll have to see how well he is able to gather himself after such a harrowing incident.
