The WNBA has rescinded a technical foul on Angel Reese for getting into an argument with an official. The incident happened during a loss to the New York Liberty.

At the time it was called, it was Reese’s second technical foul, leading to the ejection of the Chicago Sky forward.

Video of the incident didn’t really show much of a reason for the ejection, but a lead official explained that the two T’s were for “disrespectfully addressing” the referee on the court and then for “waving her hand in dismissal.”

Waving one’s hand in dismissal, as far as reasons for being ejected from a game seems relatively low on the list of egregious offenses a player could commit.

The league seems to have come around to the same conclusion. A writer for the Chicago Tribune confirmed the reversal in a post on social media.

Angel Reese Ejected, But Technical Foul Has Been Reversed

Video of the exchange that led to Angel Reese being ejected led to more questions than answers. Especially when you consider she got away with an elbow to Caitlin Clark a few days ago without so much as a common foul.

People were left wondering what happened.

“I tried to get an explanation, I did not,” Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon told reporters after the game. “I don’t know to this moment what has happened.”

Chicago Bulls player Lonzo Ball went so far as to call the ref who had Reese ejected “weak”. He also offered to pay her fine.

“Ref that threw out @Reese10Angel is weak btw… You know who you are (Keep ya money Angel I got you),” he said.

The fine, according to an ESPN report would have been a staggering $400 originally, but will now be reduced to $200 for just the one technical foul.

Thank goodness Ball stepped in to cover it. The guard recently exercised the $21.4 million option on his contract for the 2024-25 season so he should still be able to make ends meet after bailing out Reese.

Reese Says Fans Are Watching Women’s Basketball Because Of Her

Controversy just seems to follow Angel Reese wherever she goes. Even when she’s not really doing much of anything, a big deal gets made and she ends up ejected.

No matter. She relishes the role of bad girl after all.

“I’ll take that role. I’ll take the bad guy role and I’ll continue to take that on. And be that for my teammates,” she explained after recently cheering on Chennedy Carter for dropping megastar Caitlin Clark with a hip check.

“I know I’ll go down in history. I’ll look back in 20 years and be like: ‘Yeah, the reason why we’re watching women’s basketball isn’t just because of one person. It’s because of me, too,’” she said eyes rolling to the heavens.

“And I want you to realize that.”
