It was a pretty safe bet that when head coach Jim Schlossnagle abandoned his Texas A&M team less than 24 hours after vehemently insisting he was an Aggie for life, some people were going to be a little jaded.

Sure enough, along comes one of his former players, utility player Travis Chestnut.

Chestnut, who contributed to the team’s run to the College World Series finals with his speed on the basepaths, absolutely unloaded on Schlossnagle in an interview with The Eagle.

“I’m blown away by the disrespect of Schlossnagle,” he said. “Not once in my career was he a respectable man to me.”

“I stuck with him because I wanted to be an Aggie and in the SEC. But quite frankly, I didn’t stick to him. I stuck to [assistant coaches] Mike Earley and Nolan Cain.”

Players Rip Turncoat Coach Jim Schlossnagle

Honestly, Jim Schlossnagle had it coming after the way he left the program and went to rival Texas. But Chestnut also appears to have a point. At least based on this footage.

Chestnut, who was struggling in the College World Series, laid down a bunt with two strikes, always a risky play. It worked, however. He ended up at second after the bunt, stole third, and scored on a single.

A pretty positive development, right? Hustle play that could spark the team and break the player out of a funk.

Schlossnagle was asked about it by a reporter and he immediately wrecked Chestnut after one of the biggest moments of his career.

“Well, he’s struck out a lot … So it could be worse,” he said.

Others Get Their Shots In

Chestnut isn’t the only one to take some pointed jabs at the new Texas head coach. Chase Behrens, a student manager for A&M, used an old image of a brutal injury he sustained when Texas A&M was playing Texas to troll Schlossnagle.

He re-posted a picture of his bloodied face flashing the ‘horns down’ sign and captioned it, “INSIDE STORY: It wasn’t a baseball that hit Me, it was Schloss.”

Texas A&M pitcher Josh Stewart wrote on Instagram, “An Aggie does not lie, cheat or steal or tolerate those who do. Thank God for Aggie Baseball.”

Fellow pitcher Shane Sdao offered up a similar post discussing how he was staying at Texas A&M while putting the word “loyalty” in all caps.

Those posts were clear references to their former coach.

And Jim Schlossnagle deserves every bit of it.

This is a guy who berated a reporter for daring to ask if he was leaving Texas A&M, saying “I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again,” and before they could even get the key out of the team bus had signed with the Longhorns.

Loyalty and respect are two words that can never be associated with that coach ever again.
