Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones joins his team in preparing for the 2024 NFL season. The 81-year-old figurehead can do so knowing that one off-field distraction is behind him.

Jones settled his paternity trial with Alexandra and Cynthia Davis on Monday. The billionaire had sued the two after the former claimed to be his biological daughter.

In case you have not been following the case, Jones was ordered to take a paternity test earlier this year after these allegations became public record.

Cynthia had signed a paternity related contract with Jones back in 1998. The Cowboys’ owner claimed that she violated the non-disclosure agreement.

Less than one full day into the trial before it was settled, fireworks broke out in the Texas courthouse.

Per WFAA, the older Davis broke down when she took to the stand to testify. It got to the point that the judge residing over the case had to pause testimony because she broke down crying “numerous times.”

The crazy part of this story? Jones actually consoled Davis by giving her a long hug after she stepped off the witness stand.

The younger Davis filed a lawsuit against Jones alleging that he is her biological daughter stemming from a relationship her mother had with Dallas’ owner back in the mid-1990s.

It make headlines given that Jones has been married to his wife, Eugenia, since 1963. They have three children together, including current Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones.

“Alex is in a position where she really no longer has to hide her truth or live under the thumb of fear and maybe she’s going to finally get some peace and we hope other families will have that same benefit from the judge following the law,” Davis’ attorney said after Jones was compelled to take a paternity test.

Jones then filed a $1.1 million lawsuit against Davis and her mother alleging that they violated the aforementioned NDA.

“In opening statements, Jones’ attorney Chip Babcock argued that the Davises violated the contract’s clause, which prohibited them from suing Jones for paternity,” WFAA report on Jerry Jones trial. “He said that each party, Cynthia Davis and Jones, wanted to keep this confidential and didn’t want it coming out, as both were married at the time, though Cynthia Davis was separated from her husband.”

The stunning end to this trial included an unknown settlement. It’s not yet known whether Davis breaking down on the stand played a role in the two sides settling. But the empathy Jones showed for her could tell us a story here.
