The Los Angeles Dodgers celebrated Women’s Night at their home game against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday. Prior to the game, players were asked who their favorite female athlete was.
And Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani’s response stole the show!
While the names of usual suspects cropped up – Serena Williams, Caitlin Clark, and Mia Hamm for example – it was Ohtani who provided the best (and probably the smartest) answer to the question by far.
“Who’s one of your favorite female athletes?” someone asks in an Instagram video.
Without hesitation, Ohtani replied, “My wife.”

Shohei Ohtani’s Favorite Female Athlete – His Wife
In case anybody thinks Shohei Ohtani was simply trying to get in his wife’s good graces even though she only engages in a local pickleball rec league, you’d be wrong.
Mamiko Tanaka is a serious athlete.
Tanaka is a former professional basketball player who played for the Fujitsu Red Wave of the Women’s Japan Basketball League from 2019 to 2023.
She represented Japan at the international youth and collegiate level, winning gold medals at the FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship in 2011 and the William Jones Cup in 2017.
She averaged a respectable 8.9 points and 6.0 rebounds for the Red Wave during the 2022-2023 season before retiring. Ohtani and Tanaka were married in February.

Enrique Hernandez With Another Great Response
Ohtani was swiftly praised for his response honoring his wife.
“Ohtani with the correct and quick answer,” one fan wrote. “Dude is always on point!”
Another response that tugged on the ol’ heartstrings came from Dodgers third baseman Enrique Hernandez, who chose his sister as his favorite female athlete.
“Loren Hernandez,” he replied. “My little sister. She plays D-3 volleyball in Manhattanville University.”
The Dodgers also celebrated Women’s Night at the yard by allowing the players’ WAGs to choose their walk-up music.
