Sports enthusiasts have heard all kinds of trash talk over the years, whether on the playing surface or as spectators. Sometimes, it’s about a player’s loved ones. Other times, it’s about their performance. Colorado Rockies pitcher Cal Quantrill just took things up a notch in a way we’re sure you’ve never seen nor heard before.

On Wednesday, making a start against the Boston Red Sox, Quantrill was particularly fired up after a sequence in which he was pitching to Boston’s No. 7 hitter, catcher Reese McGuire. Quantrill got McGuire to fly out to center to end the top of the fourth inning in which Colorado led 8-2.

Shortly after the out, Quantrill took it upon himself to remind McGuire of a certain incident that occurred in 2020. More on that in a bit.

We can’t help but point out that this type of trash talk is not normal. Why in the world would Quantrill go THERE? What made him use this to spark McGuire’s temper? Well, there’s a reason, but we’re not ready to whip it out quite yet.

Either way, it clearly worked. Quantrill’s comments directly led to a bench-clearing brawl between the Rockies and Red Sox.

For the record, the two players have never been teammates, so it’s not like Quantrill had any advanced intel on McGuire that we know of. But, as a baseball player who hears stories about other veterans, Quantrill actually did have some insight into McGuire’s past, which we can’t help but find hilarious. Clearly, McGuire doesn’t share our sense of humor.

Reese McGuire was charged with indecent exposure in 2020

Alright, we’re ready to spill the beans. Back in 2020, Reese McGuire, then with the Toronto Blue Jays, was charged with a misdemeanor count of indecent exposure after he was discovered masturbating in his car in a shopping center parking lot in Dunedin, Florida, near the Blue Jays spring training complex. He later pled no contest and was fined $500.

Yet, four years later, Quantrill made sure to bring up McGuire’s past. So, now you know the backstory of one of the craziest trash-talking incidents in sports history.
