The country music singer Ingrid Andress shocked the world earlier this week when she gave a horrendous performance of the national anthem at the MLB Home Run Derby. Afterwards, Andress admitted that she was “drunk” during the performance, going on to say that she’s entering rehab.

Now, there has been a surprising twist in this story that nobody could have seen coming. But first, relive her horrific national anthem performance below.

Andress’ Music Plays Spike

The music streaming service SoundCloud told TMZ that plays on Andress’ music have increased by around 50 percent in the wake of her national anthem debacle. Specifically, her 2019 song “More Hearts Than Mine” has become incredibly popular among listeners.

A rep for SoundCloud went on to say that on Tuesday and Wednesday alone, plays on Andress’ songs increased “by over double.”

At the time of Andress’ national anthem performance, she had 335,000 followers on Instagram. At the time of this writing, that number has now increased to nearly 349,000 followers.

Andress’ History

Andress, 32, has had some success in her short career. She’s been nominated for four Grammy awards, including Best New Artist in 2021. She ultimately lost out this award to Megan Thee Stallion.

This comes after Andress butchered the national anthem when she performed it it at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on Monday night. The next day, Andress took to social media to say that she was “drunk” during the performance.

“I was drunk last night,” Andress said. “I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night.”

“I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition,” she added. “I’ll let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun.”

Conspiracy Theories Abound

Earlier in the day on Monday, Andress had announced that her new album “Colorado 9” will be dropping on July 24. This has resulted in conspiracy theories swirling that her national anthem debacle was actually a planned publicity stunt that was meant to promote her own music.

“Ingrid Andress 1000% did that on purpose so people google her and check out her music to see if it’s as bad as that anthem,” one social media user commented. “Real genius next level stuff.”

“Maybe Ingrid Andress purposely sang the National Anthem terribly, so people look her music up to see what she actually sings. And then they get hooked on it,” a second user added.

“Seeing all the attention Ingrid Andress is getting for butchering the US national anthem, I’m beginning to think she sang offkey on purpose,” a third person stated. “Most people (me included) had never heard of her before. Now everyone on this app knows who she is.”

A fourth social media user said that it would be “brilliant” if Andress planned this.

“I don’t know what an Ingrid Andress is but her anthem performance was most definitely on purpose,” this person commented. “Now everyone knows her name and she’s getting clicks like crazy. Brilliant.”

Andress herself has yet to speak out to address these rumors. She has, however, cancelled her next two concerts that were scheduled for the coming weeks.
