Colin Kaepernick has not played in an NFL game since the end of the 2016 season. By now, most of you know that his career was derailed by the divisive national anthem protests that he started that summer.
While Kaepernick did play out the remainder of that season with the San Francisco 49ers, he has not been able to touch an NFL job since. For many, the protests are the single reason that Kaepernick is not employed. For others, the drama just wasn’t worth it for a signal caller that was not considered upper-echelon.
Despite being eight years removed from last seeing NFL action, Kaepernick noted recently that he wants to make an NFL comeback.
“We’re still training and still pushing, hopefully we just got to get one of these team owners to open up,” Kaepernick said recently. “It’s something I’ve trained my whole life for, so to be able to step back on the field, I think that would be a major moment, a major accomplishment for me. I think I could bring a lot to a team and help them win a championship.”
Now 36 years old, that’s highly unlikely. This ship has sailed after Kaepernick failed to latch on with a team over the better part of the past decade. He’s simply not going to return to the NFL as a player. But there is seemingly another option in play here.

Los Angeles Chargers Interested In Colin Kaepernick As A Coach
New Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh opened up about the possibility of bringing in Kaepernick as a coach in Los Angeles recently. He’s more than up to that idea.
“If that was ever the path he was to take, I think that would be tremendous,” Harbaugh told USA TODAY Sports. “He’d be a tremendous coach, if that’s the path he chose.”
Kaepernick played for Harbaugh with the 49ers from 2011-14, enjoying a nice amount of success in the process. That included the former second-round pick from Nevada leading San Francisco to the Super Bowl as a sophomore in 2012.
The two enjoy a great off-field relationship. In fact, it was years back that Harbaugh hosted Kaepernick for a workout in front of NFL teams when he was the Michigan Wolverines head coach.
If anyone is going to give Kaepernick another chance in the NFL, it certainly is Harbaugh.
