Kansas City Chiefs player Harrison Butker is now the highest-paid kicker in NFL history.

Through all the controversy, all the online petitions to have him removed from the team, he has now made history with his new deal.

The Chiefs on Monday announced a contract extension with their star kicker that will keep him with the team through the 2028 season. The four-year extension is worth a total of $25.6 million, with $17.75 million guaranteed.

That is one valuable right leg.

This places Butker at the top of the list when it comes to kicker salaries, narrowly edging out Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker and Philadelphia Eagles kicker Jake Elliott.

Tucker was awarded a four-year, $24 million contract extension (with $17.5 million guaranteed) in 2022. Elliott just earned a four-year extension worth $24 million ($9.7 guaranteed)

Harrison Butker – Richest Contract For A Kicker In NFL History

Butker, 29, has been an integral part of the Chiefs’ success since he was drafted in the 7th round out of Georgia Tech in 2017.

He’s made 94 percent of his extra points and 89 percent of his field goals across his career. Last season, he was perfect on all 38 of his extra points and missed just two field goals.

While he has been Kansas City’s field goal specialist for all of its recent Super Bowls (three-time champion), he had perhaps the best postseason of his career last year.

He made all 11 of his field goals across the Chiefs’ four playoff games and was perfect on his eight extra-point attempts.

Butker accounted for 13 points on four field goals and an extra point in Kansas City’s Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers.

He is the current record holder for the longest field goal in Super Bowl history after drilling a 57-yard field goal with 20 seconds left in the first half of that game. The Chiefs went on to a 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

Fans Wanted Him Gone

‘Fans’ began an online petition earlier this year after Harrison Butker delivered a controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas.

He made several comments during the speech that caused a big stir. Much of it focused on God and family values.

A petition at Change.org to have Butker cut or traded from the team received over 230,000 signatures. A defiant Butker insisted he had no regrets over the speech.

“It’s a decision I’ve consciously made and one I do not regret at all. At the outset, many people expressed a shocking level of hate,” he said. “But as the days went on, even those who disagreed with my viewpoints shared their support for my freedom of religion.”

Butker later found himself back in the headlines for non-controversial reasons when he helped save Chiefs defensive tackle BJ Thompson while he was suffering a medical emergency.

Thompson had suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest during a routine special teams meeting.
