The father of NFL star Patrick Mahomes pled guilty to his third DWI Tuesday, agreeing to a five-year probation sentence with “intense” supervision for the first year.

Patrick Mahomes Sr. was stopped by police in Smith County, Texas back in February and admitted that he “had a few beers while watching a game at a local bar.”

According to the police affidavit, he failed a field sobriety test after officers noticed an open can of beer in his vehicle.

“Based on the totality of the circumstances,” the arresting officer wrote. “I believed Patrick was impaired to a perceptible degree while operating a motor vehicle in a public place.”

Mahomes Sr. would later submit to a blood test yielding an alcohol content of 0.23. That is nearly three times the legal limit.

Patrick Mahomes’ Father Faced 10 Years In Prison

A formal sentencing for Patrick Mahomes’ father, according to KLTV, will take place on September 23rd. But he certainly seems to have been given a pretty good deal considering it was his third DWI.

The two other incidents took place in 2018 and 2012.

The 2018 charges led to a guilty plea and the elder Mahomes was sentenced to 40 days in jail which was served on weekends.

Jail time for his second DWI. “Intense” supervision for his third. Not sure what that entails, but let’s hope it helps Mahomes Sr. avoid a fourth DWI.

Either way, it’s a much better deal than what he had been facing. Under Texas law, a third or subsequent DWI offense is a third-degree felony, which carries a potential sentence of 2 to 10 years in prison.

Another Chiefs Family Member Gets A Good Deal

Ah, to have connections. At least connections like the Kansas City Chiefs seem to have when it comes to family members who drive while intoxicated.

Missouri governor Mike Parson commuted the sentence of Britt Reid earlier this year. Reid, who is the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, was convicted in a 2021 drunk driving crash that left a then 5-year-old girl with severe injuries.

Reid had reportedly been driving about 84 mph in a 65 mph zone when he hit two parked cars near Arrowhead Stadium. According to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office in Missouri, his BAC at the time was 0.113.

Six people were injured in the crash. The little girl suffered the worst of the injuries. Ariel Young sustained a traumatic brain injury, was in a coma for 11 days, and spent two months in a hospital.

Reid had been sentenced to three years in prison in November 2022. Thanks to Parson’s commutation, he is currently serving the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until October 31, 2025.

He served only 16 months when news of commutation rolled through. Would the average citizen be given such leniency as Andy Reid’s son, or Patrick Mahomes’ father?

Jackson Mahomes, the Chiefs quarterback’s brother, was arrested and charged in 2023 with three felony counts of aggravated sexual battery, along with a misdemeanor battery charge.

The felony charges were dropped due to the alleged victim failing to cooperate. He was seen on video forcibly grabbing and kissing a woman. In March, he was sentenced to six months probation in the case.

Patrick Mahomes Sr. was a former MLB pitcher for several teams. The journeyman probably had his best season with the New York Mets in 1999, posting an 8–0 record during 39 relief appearances, and helped the team reach the playoffs.
