Xaviar Babudar, popularly known as “ChiefsAholic” among Kansas City Chiefs fans for his distinctive gray wolf suit at games, was sentenced to 17.5 years in federal prison.

The sentence was handed down for his involvement in a series of 11 armed bank robberies or attempted robberies across seven states, where he allegedly stole over $800,000.

Babudar’s criminal activities spanned from 2022 to 2023, during which he not only committed robberies but also laundered the stolen money through casinos.

He would plead guilty to one count of bank robbery, one count of money laundering and one count of transporting stolen property across state lines.

The sentencing was part of a plea deal he entered into in February. Babudar had been facing a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.

‘ChiefsAholic’ Xaviar Babudar Off To Prison

Xaviar Babudar’s case drew significant attention not just for the nature of his crimes but also due to his celebrity status within the Chiefs fan community.

How much of a superfan was Babudar? How about, he was robbing banks in order to show up to games? What an absolute unit.

“Babudar’s robbery spree bankrolled the expensive tickets and travel across the country to attend Kansas City Chiefs games while he cultivated a large fan base online,” said U.S. Attorney Teresa Moore in a statement.

Dude was robbing banks to get tickets to Chiefs games. It would have been easier if he just started dating a pop star or something.

“ChiefsAholic”, as he was known among Kansas City Chiefs fans, was easily identifiable with the distinctive gray wolf suit he wore to games. Because nothing says ‘Chiefs’ like a wolf.

Sentenced On Opening Night

The sentencing took place on the same day the Kansas City Chiefs were set to open the NFL season against the Baltimore Ravens, adding a dramatic backdrop to the legal proceedings.

The team has been associated with numerous legal and criminal issues in recent memory, including:

  • Receiver Rashee Rice was arrested over a high-speed car crash and is now facing eight felony charges.
  • Defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs was arrested following an incident related to domestic violence/burglary. Buggs was arrested twice in two months.
  • Tackles Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick were arrested for misdemeanor marijuana possession in May 2024. They were later released on bond.
  • Wide receiver Justyn Ross, who was just released by the Chiefs, was arrested for domestic battery and criminal damage. He pleaded not guilty to both charges and was released on a $2,500 bond the next day.
  • Patrick Mahomes’ father was sentenced for his third DWI recently but managed to avoid jail time.
  • His brother, Jackson Mahomes, was arrested and charged in 2023 with three felony counts of aggravated sexual battery, along with a misdemeanor battery charge. The felony charges were dropped due to the alleged victim failing to cooperate. In March, he was sentenced to six months probation in the case.
  • Britt Reid, the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, was convicted in a 2021 drunk driving crash that left a then 5-year-old girl with severe injuries. His sentence was commuted earlier this year.

And now, Xaviar Babudar has sullied the reputation of fans everywhere, becoming a Kansas City thief.

The Chiefs are starting to make the ’90s Dallas Cowboys look like veritable Boy Scouts by comparison.

In perfect form, however, ChiefsAholic has remained a ‘superfan’ throughout the ordeal. ESPN reports that he spent the past seven months at Leavenworth federal prison in Kansas “listening to Chiefs games on a transistor radio.”

A legend to the end.
