LPGA golfer Charley Hull, who some fans might argue is already “smoking”, just got permission to burn a few heaters during match play at the Solheim Cup. And if you know Charley, you know that means she’s going to rip ’em like there’s no tomorrow.

John Daly must be shedding a little tear right now as we speak.

For those not familiar with it, the Solheim Cup is the women’s equivalent of the Ryder Cup. Europe has dominated of late. The United States hasn’t hoisted the Cup since 2017.

Hull was initially banned from smoking during tournament play but now has permission this weekend to rip darts while walking down the fairway.

European team captain Suzanne Pettersen said she’s perfectly fine with Hull smoking during the Solheim Cup.

“She’s having a ball. And Charley’s old enough to make those decisions,” Patterson said. “It’s nice to get Charley going, she doesn’t like to sit around and wait.”

Charley Hull Smoking At The Solheim Cup

Prior to the Olympics, Charley Hull talked a little about her smoking habit.

“I do smoke on the course,” she said. “It’s a habit, something I do.”

That habit first came to light earlier this year. Hull made waves during the US Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club while signing autographs with a cigarette hanging off her lips.

During the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship this past June, Charley Hull was asked to actually sign a fan’s cigarette. Yes, a cigarette.

“I don’t know how I’m gonna do that,” the 28-year-old told the fan in yet another viral moment. “I’m just gonna put C.H.”

He replied, “Oh, you’re the best. Charlie, thank you!”

Yes, yes she is.

On Thursday, she went viral yet again when during a practice round for the Solheim Cup, she walked over to a fan and asked to borrow their lighter.

How’d She Pick Up The Habit?

Day one of the Solheim Cup kicks off Friday and Charley Hull will pair up with Esther Henseleit to take on the American pairing of Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz.

It will be a difficult task in this pairing with Korda having established herself earlier in the season as the top golfer, at one point winning six of seven LPGA tournaments.

Hull meanwhile ranks first on the European side for points and comes in at 12th in the world.

As for that habit of smoking? Charley Hull has an incredible excuse for it.

She actually took up smoking in order to quit vaping. Usually, it’s the other way around!

“I was a bit stressed last year and I just kind of vaped. And I wanted to stop vaping, and even though smoking is not better than vaping, it’s just you can vape indoors all the time,” she said.

“I thought if I smoke, I’m going to go outside and smoke a cigarette.”

Now, she can have all she wants mid-competition at the Solheim Cup. What an absolute legend!
