Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is demanding the police officer involved in detaining him after seemingly minor traffic infractions be fired. It’s the second time he’s called for his firing.

It comes even as Hill admits he could have acted a little bit differently when he was pulled over this past weekend.

He initially called for the officer’s firing via a statement through his attorney.

“After a careful and thorough review of the multiple body cameras and concern citizens’ videos that captured the unfortunate events that transpired on Sunday, September 8, 2024, between several officers of the Miami Dade Police Department and Tyreek Hill, we are demanding for the immediate termination of the officer that has been placed on administrative leave,” the NFL star’s lawyer said.

The Miami-Dade Police Department has said they are conducting an internal investigation into his detainment. One of the officers involved in the arrest was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome.

Tyreek Hill Wants The Officer Fired

Tyreek Hill doubled down on his calls for the police officer to be fired during a press conference on Wednesday.

“Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone. He gotta go man,” he said making gestures as if to throw the man out. “Because, in that instance right there, not only did he treat me bad, he also treated my teammates with disrespect.”

“He had some crazy words toward them and they ain’t even do nothing. Like, what did they do to you? They were just walking on the sidewalk,” Hill continued. “He gotta go man.”

“Not too many times ‘Cheetah’ say people gotta go, but you … out. Gone!”

Videos show an aggressive response from officers considering the suspect in question was ultimately cited for a seat belt violation and speeding at 20 MPH or so above the posted limit. I say “or so” because he wasn’t clocked. Police used a “visual estimation”.

Hill Admits He Should Have Been More Cooperative

At the same time, Tyreek Hill has not been entirely forthcoming with what really happened, insisting he was compliant even when the bodycam footage shows him scolding officers for tapping on his window.

On Wednesday, the president of the South Florida Police Benevolent Association issued a statement defending the officer’s actions.

“He was briefly detained for officer safety, after driving in a manner in which he was putting himself and others in great risk of danger,” he said.

“Upon being stopped, Mr. Hill was not immediately cooperative with the officers on the scene who, pursuant to policy and for their immediate safety, placed Mr. Hill in handcuffs,” he continued. “Mr. Hill, still uncooperative, refused to sit on the ground and was therefore redirected to the ground.”

Hill admitted his behavior could have been better and also, despite previous claims to the media, acknowledged that he did not cooperate when asked to keep his heavily tinted window down.

“I have family members who are cops. We’ve had conversations. Yes, I will say I could have been better. I could have let down my window in that instant,” Hill said.

“The thing about me is I don’t want attention. I don’t want to be cameras out, phones on you in that moment. But at the end of the day I am human, I have got to follow rules and do what everyone else would do,” he continued.

Still, he says the police had no right to “literally beat the dog out of me”.
