It’s not unusual for athletes, let alone gymnasts, to appear on Dancing With the Stars. The connection between an athlete’s graceful movement and timing are put to the test much like an athletic competition. It isn’t as easy as it might seem, as participants can attest.
U.S. Olympic gymnast and bronze medalist Stephen Nedoroscik announced on Good Morning America last week that he will enter the competition. Nedoroscik has been a fan favorite, being known on the internet as the “pommel horse guy.”
And he became a viral sensation when he was spotted catching some quick shut-eye before competing in Paris. Plenty of jokes were to be had:
Notably, Nedoroscik will be the first male gymnast to compete on Dancing With the Stars. But he’s definitely not the first athlete to perform.
He’s joining elite company among great athletes to show off their dancing skills.
Athletes Who Have Found Success On DWTS
A notable list of athletes include former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver and U.S. Olympic gymnasts Simone Biles and Laurie Hernandez.
Donald Driver: Winner, Season 14.
Driver competed on Dancing With the Stars in 2012 with his partner Peta Murgatroyd. Driver and Murgatroyd had been consistent throughout the competition. However, nothing would top a show-stopping freestyle routine, in which they scored a perfect 30. That was in the season finale and they took home the mirror ball trophy.

You can see why Donald Driver is the best wide receiver in the history of the storied Green Bay Packers!
Simone Biles: Fourth Place in Season 24
The best Olympic gymnast of all time even took her turn on the dance floor in 2017. Her dancing partner during competition was Sasha Farber. They were super consistent and routinely put up great scores. However, their magic shockingly came to an end after being eliminated in the semifinals. It caught everyone by surprise. Despite that, she held her head high and was just happy to be part of competition.
Laurie Hernandez: Winner In Season 25
While Biles did not win Dancing With the Stars in her season 24 appearance, the very next year another Olympic gymnast took their turn on the dance floor: Laurie Hernandez.
She was a hit from the beginning and ran away with the competition. She scored a perfect 10 with all the judges eight times during her season, which is unfathomable!
But, when you remember how wild her freestyle dance was, it’s easy to see how she won!
How far Stephen Nedoroscik will go is anyone’s guess, but gymnasts have a good track record of deep runs in the competition!
