Peggy Coppom has long been known as the Colorado Buffaloes biggest super fan. Indeed, she has missed just three of the team’s home games since 1966. She’s so dedicated, she almost makes Packer fans look pedestrian.
Last week, Coppom celebrated her 100th birthday at an emotional pregame ceremony on ESPN’s College Game Day.
Miss Peggy Is Brought To Tears As She Turns 100
Coppom could not help but become emotional at the festivities, as this year, head coach Deion Sanders has dedicated the Buffaloes’ season to bringing “Miss Peggy” to a bowl game.
The former Colorado quarterback Kordell Stewart teamed up with ESPN’s crew and thousands of fans to serenade Coppom with “Happy Birthday.” They did this as the centenarian was presented with a gorgeous Buffaloes-themed cake. Even many viewers at home could not help but become emotional as Coppom began to cry.
“I haven’t even comprehended it yet, but I cried,” Coppom said afterwards. “I just thank God for my life and for all the friends and for everything that’s happened to me.”

Miss Peggy’s Twin Sister
While Coppom enjoyed her big day, it was tainted slightly by the absence of her beloved twin sister Betty Hoover. The twins spent decades attending Colorado Buffaloes games together before Hoover died in August of 2020 following an illness.
“I just wish my twin sister were here,” Coppom said. “It all started because we were twins. I can’t deny that we’ve been loyal fans, but I said to get all this attention for just having a good time is unbelievable.”
While Coppom attended Colorado, she only did so for one year before leaving to marry an Air Force pilot and start a family. Her twin sister married an Air Force pilot as well.

Coach Sanders Praises Miss Peggy
Coach Sanders had nothing but praise for Coppom after celebrating her birthday.
“It’s amazing that God would find two people from two different walks of life, two different generations and bring them together as He has,” Sanders said of his bond with Colorado’s biggest fan. “She’s always greeted me with love, compassion, support, stability and hope.”
“I’m thankful to know her, I’m thankful she can get to me any time she desires to and I’m thankful to be celebrating her 100th with her,” he continued. “She is the epitome of CU Buffs. She’s the epitome of Buff nation. She is the rock that holds us all together, and I’m thankful to know her. I really am.”
Sanders is hoping to launch an apparel line in honor of Coppom. Indeed, he has her full support in this endeavor.
“He’s given our whole community and the university all this attention,” Coppom gushed. “This is all unbelievable. So that’s what he is, kind of unbelievable.”
Miss Peggy Is ‘Having A Good Time’
Coppom has been open about how touched she is by the attention she’s gotten from her favorite team.
“It’s been unbelievable, all the attention,” Peggy told USA Today days before her birthday. “I feel very humble and very honored. I’m having a good time. The sad part is my sister is not here to do it with me, but everything’s going well. I’m in disbelief at all this attention. I feel so undeserving. I can’t believe I’ve been honored for just having a good time, just going to the games and everything.”
We’d like to wish Miss Peggy a very happy birthday, and many more to come!
