Fresno State suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Northern Illinois Huskies Monday, 28-20, in double overtime at the Idaho Potato Bowl. The Bulldogs held a 13-3 lead at halftime but couldn’t hold on, allowing 10 points in the third quarter and leading eventually to extra play.
In the overtime frame, Fresno State actually scored first with a touchdown, but Northern Illinois responded right back. Then, the killer.
On the first play of double overtime, Huskies freshman wide receiver George Dimopoulos threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Dane Pardridge, and the team converted the 2-point play.
Northern Illinois made a defensive stop to seal the victory.
Wild. Dramatic, right? But nobody was talking about the game. Why? Because ESPN, throughout their broadcast, kept referring to Fresno State in their graphics by a very wrong name.
Like salt right in the wound.
ESPN Gives Fresno State A New Nickname
We’re not quite sure how this happens, but somebody at ESPN graced Fresno State with a brand new nickname. It’s not a very flattering one, at that.
And they posted it in their graphics repeatedly.
Ladies and gentlemen, we give you YOUR Fresno State … “Bulldongs.”
Awful Announcing posted several screenshots of the horrific flub, while eagle-eyed viewers saw the “Bulldongs” name appear in several other instances.

Fans Had A Field Day
Look, typos happen all the time in this business. But “Bulldongs” has had me laughing all morning. And how does ESPN let this mistake get posted more than once, let alone as many times as it had?
The jokes practically write themselves.
“After the final seconds of the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, Chet – a disgruntled, ESPN media production assistant- was escorted off the ESPN campus never to be seen or heard from again,” one fan said on X.
Another predicted, “Someone is getting fired.”
“Did that last all game?” another asked. “What an unbelievable typo, lol.”
We don’t know how it happened. But we do know that Georgia is set to play Notre Dame on January 1st. And ESPN is airing the game. Let’s hope that the graphics department intern is still on board to see the Fighting Irish take on the “Bulldongs” of Georgia.
