A Los Angeles Dodgers fan did his best impersonation of Jason Pierre-Paul after their World Series victory, blowing off a couple of fingers trying to set off fireworks during the celebration.

Now, his family is speaking out, describing the fact that his injuries weren’t worse as a “miracle.”

“He’s basically missing his pointing finger,” 25-year-old Kevin King’s father told Fox 11. “The meat portion between the pointing finger and the thumb area. He did have some issues between both his ears.”

Setting off fireworks by hand seems to confirm he had issues between his ears before the celebration went awry.

There is a video of the incident on social media. Don’t watch it. Seriously, it’s gross.

Dodger Fan Firework Incident

While I’m poking some fun here, because people who play with fireworks need a little ribbing, King’s injuries are terrible and very serious.

He’s already had to undergo two surgeries with a third being lined up.

“The surgeon did see the video,” King’s father said. “They don’t understand how he was able to walk away with the injuries that he that he has. He protected 90% of his face from the explosion.”

Still, he acknowledges, mistakes were made.

“He knows obviously, he made a pretty bad mistake of deciding to light a firework, not knowing where it came from,” he said.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the Dodgers fan following the firework mishap. Go donate. Despite my poking fun, nobody should have to suffer the way he has.

A Better Celebration

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers themselves were holding an epic celebration not involving fireworks after dispatching the New York Yankees in the World Series.

It included poking fun at rapper Fat Joe. Who definitely deserved it.

“We go to New York, and this guy, he used to be fat. He’s not fat anymore. His name is Joe. He came out and sang, and guess what?” Dodgers outfielder Kiké Hernandez joked. “We didn’t even need to play, because after that performance, we had already won.”

Relief pitcher Joe Kelly recently mocked the Yankees, indicating they were really only the “eighth or ninth-best playoff team.”

What a blindside. And unnecessary. Talk about fireworks.
