Collectors have been waiting all year for this moment. Finally, Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes will have his first autographed Topps rookie card.
Skenes signed cards for 2024 Topps Five Star, which is scheduled to be released Oct. 4. The National League All-Star Game starter has rookie cards in other Topps products, but none included ink.
Skenes’ hobby popularity exploded as he blazed his way through the minors before making his MLB debut in May. According to data from Market Movers, Skenes’ baseball cards have risen in value by nearly 79 percent over the last year — an incredible jump. The average sale came in at $97 as total sales were over $2.9 million.

Several of Paul Skenes’ Bowman cards have sold well into the five figures. The ace’s most expensive card to date is his 2023 Bowman Draft Chrome Prospects Autograph 1/1 Superfractor, graded PSA 7, that went for $80,520 this past June during an auction at Goldin.
Since Skenes first took the mound for the Pirates, all the rookie has done is dominate. In his first 20 career starts, Skenes is 10-2 with a 2.10 ERA and an astounding 151 strikeouts in just 120 innings. He’s already accrued a 5.2 WAR (wins above replacement), tied for fourth-highest for a pitcher.
Skenes is a strong favorite to capture the 2024 NL Rookie of the Year Award.
