As well-meaning as the Pirates’ offer is, whoever pulls this card shouldn’t take it. Skenes’ Topps Rookie Debut Patch Autograph card will easily sell well into the six figures. And if he continues to have a dominant career, it wouldn’t be surprising if this card touches $1 million one day.
Skenes’ highest-priced card to date is his 2023 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Autograph Superfractor 1/1, graded PSA 7, which sold for $123,200 at Goldin in September.
Skenes had a phenomenal rookie year for the Pirates. The ace started the All-Star game for the National League and is a finalist for both NL Rookie of the Year and Cy Young. Over 23 starts, Skenes went 11-3, with a 1.96 ERA, 214 ERA+, 177 strikeouts in just 133 innings, a minuscule 0.94 WHIP, and a 5.9 WAR.
