The former two-division UFC champion fighter Conor McGregor was recently awarded a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu after 20-years of training at the Straight Blast Gym in Ireland, further cementing his reputation in the fighting world.

Presenting the belt was John Kavanagh, the fighter’s head coach, who recognized his student’s mastery in BJJ after a particularly intense training session that day.

The MMA legend, who previously secured UFC titles in the Featherweight division in 2015 and Lightweight in 2016, jumped instantly over to social media to celebrate his accomplishment.

The celebration didn’t end there however. Afterwards, the Irishman left the Straight Blast Gym and was spotted out on the streets showcasing his black belt around the city, notably pairing it with a distinctive pink outfit. I can’t say that’s a style I’d go for, but I’ve also been a BJJ white belt for going on two years now so I’ve got nothing to boast about.

It’s good that McGregor should have something big to celebrate during a period that can probably be described as one of the worst comeback attempts in the world of professional fighting sports ever.

McGregor kicked off the year with his Netflix documentary, teasing his return to the UFC after his severe leg break and defeat a few years back. Since his PR campaign to drive up enthusiasm for his return, he’s avoided actually taking his upcoming fight with opposing coach on this season of The Ultimate Fighter (where he’s proven to be the worst coach ever), Michael Chandler seriously.

When not dodging Chandler and USADA drug testers (which he still hasn’t submitted a sample too), he’s been calling out Floyd Mayweather, hitting on rappers while his wife watched their children at home, and is still fighting accusations of rape.

It’s ok though, he’s still not as unpopular as “Suger” Sean O’Malley is at the moment.
