After the 2024 F1 season ended, Carlos Sainz spilled the beans on a pretty funny moment he had with actor Brad Pitt. Apparently, Sainz received a handwritten apology from Brad for photobombing Ferrari’s official team picture. Here’s what went down.

During the photo session, Pitt — who is involved in a forthcoming F1-themed film alongside co-star Damson Idris — was at the Ferrari F1 Team’s side in the paddock. It happened at Ferrari’s annual end-of-season team photo, which involves all team members, drivers, and the season’s cars. Brad Pitt and Idris found themselves, unintentionally, behind Sainz and his teammate Charles Leclerc during the shoot. Pitt, after he realized his mistake, wrote a personal letter to Sainz apologizing for the unintended intrusion.

Sainz recounted the event on his YouTube channel, saying:

“Poor Brad, Brad Pitt came to our team picture yesterday. He joined in the team photo. Today he sent me a handwritten letter apologizing because he thought it was just a normal photobomb and he thought the photo was also for my farewell. But it was not, so he did not need to apologise. He did not do anything wrong. In fact, it’s even better. I have a photo with the whole team and Brad Pitt!”

It turns out, Sainz is leaving Ferrari, but thankfully, it was not an official picture. Next season, he will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton, a move that caught Sainz and many others by surprise. But the Spanish driver doesn’t seem to be sulking about it. Instead, Sainz has thrown his lot in with his next challenge, signing a multi-year contract with Williams. “Patient” and “motivated” to put Williams back on “legendary roots,” he said he hopes he can help revive the team.

Hamilton is ready to bring his A-game to Ferrari next season, making 2025 one of the most anticipated F1 seasons yet. Sainz is just taking all of the changes in stride. And really, how many people can say they have been photobombed by Brad Pitt?
