Kevin Harvick went from having a photo finish at the YellaWood 500 to being flagged at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday. The driver of the No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford thought he was narrowly edged out by fellow racer, Ryan Blaney, only to discover later that he had been disqualified following the post-race inspection.
Harvick, who was beaten by Blaney by 0.012 seconds, was disqualified by NASCAR after officials discovered his vehicle had unsecured windshield fasteners, which meant an unsecured windshield. The disqualification comes for violating NASCAR Rule Book numbers 14.5.6.2.F Windshield and 14.1.E&P Overall Assembled Vehicle Rules.
Because of this, Harvick lost all stage points earned in the race and was moved to 38th in the running order. The revised top-10 finishing order for the Yellawood 500 has been changed to Blaney, William Byron, Denny Hamlin, Corey LaJoie, Austin Cindric, Justin Haley, Chase Elliott, Ryan Preece, Riley Herbst and Daniel Suarez to round it out.
Stewart-Haas Racing says it has no plans to appeal Kevin Harvick’s punishment.

According to the Associated Press, SHR said Monday that the bolts had fallen out during the race, and the team would not appeal the DQ.
“At the completion of the race, not all of our windshield fasteners were secure, as we had bolts that hold the windshield in place back out over the course of the 500 miles,” the statement read. “We are in the process of diagnosing why this happened and how to prevent it moving forward,” the team said in a statement.
NASCAR races next Sunday on The Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
