South Carolina Gamecocks head women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley is coming off one of the most-amazing two-year runs in the history of the sport.
The all-time great head coach led South Carolina to a perfect record and a win over Caitlin Clark’s former Iowa team in the National Championship earlier this month.
Staley is a star of the women’s game. She’s drawn interest as a potential head coach in both the NBA and WNBA. She’s the toast of South Carolina.
So, why would Staley find herself starstruck? Lave it to music icon and world-wide celebrity Beyonce to put Staley in this position.
In a video posted to social media, Staley is sitting next to flowers that were sent to her by Beyonce. She also had a black shirt with the terms “Always Been Country,” which is an homage to the music superstar’s latest album.
“To Coach Staley and the entire South Carolina Gamecocks,” Beyonce’s note to Dawn Staley read. “Me and my family watched your games and cheered you on through the entire season. I’m so proud of you. All my love.”

Dawn Staley Goes Fandom After Receiving Package From Beyonce
Just imagine sitting around and getting this package from someone as well-known and appealing as Beyonce. It would likely make even the most-famous of us gush.
“That’s B, that’s B and her family,” Staley said on the video. “B, thank you, we’re honored to wear your gear.”
“Iv’e been in the South for 16 years, I’m a little country, too, Staley finished.
Beyonce’s new album goes away from her pop and R&B roots to add a little country twang. Apparently, Staley appreciated that big time.
As for Staley and her Gamecocks, they won their third national championship in eight years earlier this month. The sky seems to be the limit as South Carolina becomes the latest “blue blood” of womens’ college basketball.
