ESPN media personality Stephen A. Smith is reportedly in line for an absolutely huge pay day. He’s as popular as they come.
Hot takes on top of hot takes. Entertaining the masses daily. Even if Smith’s takes prove to be 100% false, he puts it out there. You have to respect him in today’s react first, think second society.
So, that’s why it’s not a surprise that one of Smith’s takes from nearly a decade ago is making the rounds.
Ahead of the 2016 men’s basketball national championship game between Villanova and North Carolina, the media personality said that “Villanova doesn’t have a real NBA prospect on this squad.”
The Wildcats ended up beating North Carolina by the score of 77-74.
Josh Hart scored 12 points with eight rebounds. Jalen Brunson added just four points. Meanwhile, Mikal Bridges scored a mere two points off the bench. A freshman at the time, Donte DiVincenzo did not play for then-head coach Jay Wright.

Stephen A. Smith Now Eating His Words Big Time
Fast forward eight years, and this take has become the hottest of them all.
Bridges, Hart and DiVincenzo all found themselves as first-round picks. Brunson was a second-round selection of the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018 NBA Draft.
What do the four now have in common outside of being teammates at Villanova? Following the blockbuster trade of Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks, all four are members of Stephen A. Smith’s favorite team. Brunson himself was a legit NBA MVP candidate this past season and put up an historical performance in the playoffs.
You really can’t make this stuff up. A true Knick homer, Smith is going to have to cheer for four players who he didn’t think had a future in the NBA. The four are now core pieces for a Knicks squad that has legitimate NBA title aspirations.
Eight years after the fact, and Smith is absolutely elated about the Knicks following their trade for Bridges. Again, can’t make this stuff up.
Hindsight is 20/20. This one scribe once thought Blake Bortles was going to be the next great NFL quarterback. S**t happens, right?
Just don’t tell that to those who responded to the Smith video from eight years ago. He won’t live this down any time soon.
