Adam Sandler has confirmed that Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce – who also happens to be the highest-paid tight end in football – will appear in Happy Gilmore 2.

Sandler, star of the original movie that came out nearly 30 years ago, revealed the casting news in a Tuesday appearance with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.

“You know Travis Kelce wants to be a part of this,” Fallon said.

The Saturday Night Live alum had nothing but praise for the Kansas City Chiefs tight end. Then he dropped this bombshell.

“Yes, yes, yes,” Sandler replied. “Travis, he mentioned it, so we have a nice something for Travis. He’s gonna come by. He’s a very nice guy, you guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell.”

Kelce Scores A Role In Happy Gilmore 2

The original Happy Gilmore starred Sandler as a hockey player with anger management issues who discovers that his wicked slap shot (his only skill, he can’t even ice skate) translates perfectly to golf.

The film became a cultural phenomenon, known for its humor, memorable lines, and Sandler’s over-the-top performance. Likewise, it featured numerous cameo appearances from athletes and sports reporters.

The original also starred Bob Barker, Carl Weathers, and Joe Flaherty, each of whom has sadly passed away. Barker played himself at a charity event in the film while Weathers was Gilmore’s coach, Chubbs Peterson. Flaherty was the crazed fan who would yell “Jacka–!” in an attempt to rattle Happy.

Rumor has it each man will be paid tribute to with Sandler also trying to get current Price is Right host Drew Carey into the mix.

Travis Kelce initially, in addressing rumors that he was being linked to Happy Gilmore 2, expressed interest in simply being an extra on the film.

“I didn’t even know there was a job opening for Happy Gilmore 2, but if there is, I’ll be a […] extra,” he told his brother on their New Heights podcast.

In fact, Kelce admitted he was actively hunting for movie roles of any kind.

“I’ll do anything in the movie,” he said as a means to score a role. “I’ll be a part of it any way I possibly can.”

Now, Adam Sandler is revealing Travis won’t just be an extra, but will “have a nice something” to look forward to in Happy Gilmore 2.

While there is no release date yet for the new film, an open casting call for extras in New Jersey is currently ongoing.

Kelce’s Other Movie Role

News of Kelce’s potential appearance in Happy Gilmore 2 comes as he has been announced to star in a buddy-cop comedy movie called Loose Cannons.

Travis also hosted Saturday Night Live in 2023 and signed on to host a reboot of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? titled Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? for Amazon.

He recently concluded filming and apparently had a lot of fun with the show.

“It was a blast, man,” he said. “It was a blast shooting it, and to be honest I always wanted to do something with a game show.”

Now, to be a part of an iconic sequel? *Chef’s kiss*

In the nearly three decades since Happy Gilmore premiered, it has enjoyed consistent airplay as a classic film with one-liners and quotes that have endured the test of time.

Everybody remembers Adam Sandler telling Barker: “The price is wrong, […].”

Who amongst us hasn’t approached a putt and muttered to ourselves, “Just tap it in. Just tap it in. Give it a little tappy. Tap Tap Taparoo.”

Leave that putt short? “Why don’t you just go HOME? That’s your HOME! Are you too good for your HOME?”

Who knows? Maybe Travis will deliver a line in the movie that we’ll be repeating for many years to come.
