The traffic infractions that led to the forceful arrest of Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill have been released, raising even more questions as to how the incident became so intense that it required the athlete to be placed in handcuffs face down on the pavement.

ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who was famously on the scene for the arrest of PGA golfer Scottie Scheffler, released copies of the traffic violations involving Hill on X Tuesday.

And man, they don’t look good for the Miami-Dade Police Department.

The tickets show Hill cited for “careless driving” and a “seat belt violation”.

The notes on the careless driving infraction indicate officers used a “visual estimation” to determine Hill was traveling at a rate of 60 MPH.

Tyreek Hill’s Tickets Seem Relatively Minor

I’m not going to lie, when reports first surfaced suggesting police stopped Tyreek Hill for reckless driving and it escalated to his being detained, my assumption was he had to be going a minimum of 100 MPH.

Using Google Streetview, the speed limit in the block noted on the citation appears to be 40 MPH.

While a “visual estimation” is admissible as evidence in the matter of court proceedings, one could easily argue the estimate is off based on human error.

In Miami, a speeding ticket involving speeds between 20 and 29 MPH over the posted limit can result in a fine of roughly $300 and 4 points on a license. A seat belt violation is considered ‘nonmoving’ in Florida and would result in a lesser fine.

Yet somehow, Hill ended up being detained over these alleged violations.

Social Media Shocked

Based on the public’s reaction to the citations on social media, it appears most people similarly assumed Tyreek Hill was driving much more recklessly than he was accused of doing.

“60!? 💀💀💀 Bro got choked out for going 60,” one fan wrote.

Another responded, “The Miami Police Department is a complete farce. A joke. They need to come out and apologize for this garbage.”

Comedian Tim Young pointed out that the “visual estimation” attempt “won’t hold up in court”.

Many readers blasted the police for letting speculation mount that Hill had been driving well over 60 MPH. Still others pointed out how unlikely it is to have seen a seat belt violation based on the Dolphins star’s heavily tinted windows.

The Miami-Dade Police Department has said they are conducting an internal investigation into the detainment of Tyreek Hill. A representative for the police union said the player was at fault for not being “immediately” cooperative with officers.

Hill, in an interview with Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News, explained that he feared being shot during the police confrontation that “went from 0 to 60”.

What happened before the footage circulating on social media began? Is there anything that warrants how the temporary detainment of Tyreek Hill escalated to the degree that it did?
