Jason Kelce retired back in March after a 13 year NFL career as center for the Philadelphia Eagles. To play offensive line, you have to be a big guy.
He’s now speaking out to reveal that since then, he’s lost an impressive amount of weight. Jason is reportedly eager to shed even more pounds moving forward for a very special reason.
Jason’s Major Weight Loss
Jason, 36, has revealed that he’s lost nearly 20 pounds since retiring.
“I weighed 295 for the majority of my NFL career, and I look forward to losing some of those pounds,” Jason recently told GQ. He went on to say that he doesn’t “want to get too small. I think a lot of guys, especially offensive linemen, they lose too much weight, and then they look like bobbleheads because their neck gets so small, but their head stays the same size.”
“So for me, I feel like for some reason, 250 to 260 feels like I’ll be still big and be happy with the way I look without having a six-pack,” he continued. “But I’ll still be able to have that stature a little bit.”
Imagine – someone wanting to be 260 pounds!
As for why he wants to lose more weight, it’s all about his children. He and his wife Kylie Kelce, who he’s been married to since 2018, are the parents to three daughters: Wyatt, 4, Elliotte, 3, and Bennett, 1.
“Right now, I’m about 277. I’m almost 20 pounds down right now,” Jason explained. “But my back already feels better. My knees already feel better. So another 20 pounds hopefully will make that much more adept at playing with my children.”
Jason’s Weight Loss Goals
Jason first revealed his weight loss goals during an April episode of his New Heights podcast.
“My goal is two pounds every week, lose it. I want to lose it, but maintain my muscle mass,” Jason said at the time, according to Newsweek.

During his 13 year NFL career, Jason’s body took a beating. CBS Sports reported that he has reconstructed his right knee twice. He’s also experienced groin and hand surgery in his career. It was his physical issues that led to Jason deciding that this was the right time for him to retire.
“My elbow, my knees, it’s just gotten to the point where the deterioration and recovery from that deterioration—it hasn’t really manifested on game day yet, but I know it’s gonna start doing that and I’d rather not—I’m hard on myself, and if I go out there and I’m not the player that I wanna be, it’ll crush me,” Jason said in his retirement announcement, according to E! News.
“So I feel very confident in the decision I made, I know that it’s time. I’ve had a really good run,” he added.

Jason Went Out On A High
Despite his physical ailments, Jason was incredibly talented on the field right up until the very end.
In his final season, Jason was chosen as a First Team All-Pro for the sixth time in his incredible career. With this honor, he made history as the only center since the merger to earn that many selections and a Super Bowl title.
After such a legendary NFL career, Jason certainly deserves to enjoy his retirement. We’re glad to see that even with his newfound downtime, Jason is focused on staying healthy for his family!
