For those Dallas Cowboys fans hoping General Manager Jerry Jones will step aside in the near future – don’t hold your breath.

Jones, in an interview with DLLS, boldly declared that there is nobody on the planet who can do a better job of running the organization than him.

He has been GM of the club since 1989. And in the interview showed he doesn’t much care what fans, or anybody for that matter, think of him. Jones is the head honcho, and he declared as much in a profanity-laced tirade.

“I’ve done it all. So I have an ordinate amount of confidence that […], if anybody can figure out how to get this […] done, I can figure out how to get it done,” Jones said.

“I’ve been there every which way from Sunday, and have I busted my[…] a bunch, a bunch. And there’s nobody living that’s out cutting and shooting that can’t give you a bunch of times they busted their […].”

Jones added, “So hell no, there’s nobody that could […] come in here and do all the contracts … and be a GM any better than I can.”

A Mundane Off-Season

Jerry Jones’ declaration that he is the best GM that the Cowboys could possibly have comes as fans have been roasting him over negotiating tactics involving wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

Lamb just inked a four-year, $136 million contract extension which includes a record $38 million signing bonus and $100 million in guaranteed money.

He is heading into his fifth season and was always poised to get a big contract. Jones though, for some reason opted to wait until the last minute, prompting Lamb to miss early parts of training camp.

Jones is also working on contract negotiations with quarterback Dak Prescott as he enters the final year of his current deal.

The best GM Dallas has to offer previously said the club would be “going all in” to improve after a devastating wild-card loss to the Packers in January.

Beyond Lamb’s contract extension, Dallas bolstered their defense by acquiring former Giants defensive tackle Jordan Phillips and former Jets defensive end Carl Lawson.

None of these moves were the big splash Cowboys fans were waiting for. Jones seemed more wrapped up in his own personal paternity case – which was finally settled – than anything football-related.

Is Jerry Jones The Best GM?

Dallas Cowboys fans will be shocked to learn that Jerry Jones considers himself the best GM the franchise has to offer.

Jones came in like a whirlwind in 1989 and shook up the entire city when he dumped legendary coach Tom Landry in favor of Jimmy Johnson. The two swiftly built a dynasty that won three Super Bowls in four years in the early ’90s.

However, post-1990s, the team has experienced significant playoff droughts and controversies, with Jones often criticized for his personnel decisions and the team’s failure to return to an NFC Championship game, much less a Super Bowl.

Last year’s loss to the Packers marked Dallas’ 13th straight playoff appearance without reaching a conference championship. The glory days of the ’90s have remained in the ’90s.

Since winning the Super Bowl in 1995, the storied franchise has just five playoff wins.

Fans often note that the one and only consistent entity during that time has been Jones as general manager.

He doesn’t shy away from his responsibility in the interview, saying his desk is “where the buck stops.”

“The reason I don’t let somebody else be the GM is because I don’t have anybody that I will let do it to actually do it right,” said Jones.

If doing it right means just five playoff wins in almost 30 years, we’d hate to see what doing it wrong looks like.
