NFL: New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers

Suffice it to say, Michael Thomas, former New Orleans Saints wide receiver, is not a big fan of Derek Carr. Thomas went absolutely rabid on Carr, now the Saints quarterback, on social media.

The controversy began with a play involving Saints receiver Chris Olave on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Olave suffered a concussion going for a high ball thrown by Carr when he was absolutely crushed by two Panthers defenders.

Yes, the ball was poorly thrown. And Olave was flanked pretty well by a defender. But the Panthers’ safety took a vicious shot at Olave coming across the field (defenseless receiver!), and he went down hard.

Flags flew all over the field following the hit.

Olave was placed on a backboard and taken to the hospital for observation. He was later discharged but had been diagnosed with at least his fourth career concussion.

Thomas Takes Several Shots At Derek Carr

Thomas, who is sitting at home after being released by the Saints after three injury-marred, non-productive seasons, had ample time to blast Derek Carr on social media.

“Derek Carr for you I been told yall […] sad,” Thomas said, butchering both Carr and the English language. “Dude scary and panic and just throw the ball. Get him the f out of here he so ass.” . . .

Thomas later added that Carr “is ass on my granny.”

“Dude tried to lie and say I was jealous of them making Chris WR1 whole time he can’t even get him a decent ball,” he continued. “He need his ass whooped. . . . They fired all them coaches trying to cover his flaws up he still doing the same […].”

I don’t know, man. You’re sitting at home raging over a team you don’t even play for. You sound a little jealous.

Carr Responds

Derek Carr, a four-time Pro Bowl quarterback, was forced to address the situation with Thomas, a three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, after the game.

Mainly because a reporter couldn’t help but try to stir the pot.

Carr took the high road – big time.

“I have love for Mike,” Carr responded. “When he does that, I don’t really care for it, obviously. I’ve had so many teammates over the years and he’s like the one dude who didn’t get along with me. I don’t know what I did to him.”

“I don’t know why he feels that way,” he added. “I’m sorry for whatever he’s dealing with to make him feel like he’s got to do that.”

Derek Carr went on to claim he’s tried reaching out to Thomas, but the former wide receiver has instead hidden behind his keyboard.

“But he’s never called me during any of this. My phone number has never changed. I’ve, in fact, called him on different occasions just to try — sometimes you can try as hard as you want and it just doesn’t work out,” said Carr.

“It’s just something I would just never do to a teammate.”

The Saints have struggled this season. After getting off to a hot start by winning their first two games, New Orleans has lost seven in a row. They fell to the Panthers, who have an identical record, 23-22.
